Menstruation (a period) is a major stage of puberty in girls; it's one of the many physical signs that a girl is turning into a woman. And similar to a lot of the other change associated with teenage years, menstruation can live confusing.
Some girls can't wait to start their periods, whereas others may feel afraid or anxious. Many girls (and guys!) don't have a complete understanding of a woman's reproductive system or what actually happens during the menstrual cycle, making the process seem even more mysterious.
Common Menstrual Problems
Most issues teens confront when they start menstruating are completely normal. In fact, many girls and women have had to deal with one or more of them at one time or another:
Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)
• Depression or feeling blue
• Difficulty concentrating
• Difficulty handling stress
• Sore breasts
• Food cravings
Herbs for Treating Menstrual Problems
Ginger is very effective for cold climates. The lower temperatures often cause painful and irregular menses. Ginger is infused with sugar and this preparation is administered to the women experiencing difficult menstruation.
Many women suffer due to heavy menstruation. They can take ashwagandha tonic for reducing heavy flow during menstruation.
The tonic liquorice is also useful for reducing heavy flow during menstruation.
Aloe Vera is known to be a good stimulant of uterus. As such, it is often administered to the women experiencing painful menstruation.
Valerian or Valeriana Wallichii is used for stimulation of menstrual blood flow apart from being used for treating many other diseases.
If a woman experiences congestive pain during her menstrual cycle, she can get relief by taking castor oil before her periods are due.
Asafetida increases the secretion of progesterone, the female hormone, facilitating smooth menstruation. It should be fried in ghee and mixed with goat's milk and a spoonful of honey. Having this mixture for about a month reduces pain during menses.
Henna has a very cooling effect. The suppositories of its leaves are placed in the vagina of the women who have problem of excessive flow during menstruation.
Body systems may become lethargic if a woman does not exercise enough. This lack of movement may cause muscles to atrophy, affecting the menstrual cycle adversely again. When a woman receives enough keep fit, her systems grow to be stronger and additional efficient.
In contrast, when a woman receives too little exercise, typical functions, like menstruation will slow or stop. Preexisting medical conditions may make it very difficult for a woman to get enough exercise.
Thyroid disease, like hypothyroidism, typically causes underproduction of vital hormones, which in turn causes marked fatigue or lethargy. It might be hard for these women to sustain regular every day activity.
